“Stop the road closures”

In December I took part in the Freedom Babbleon, a unique 12-hour fundraising event organised by Hackney youth charity Worldwrite. Each participant was given four minutes to speak about freedom – political, historical, artistic, scientific – the choice was ours. Naturally I chose road closures, focusing on how cars had helped give working class people, especially women, choices never available to them before. I argued that the current war on driving is a war on our our hard-won freedoms.
